Yamaha’s XSR155 neo‑retro motorcycle has now been launched in Nepal, with MAW Rides introducing it at the ongoing NADA Auto Show 2026 in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu. The launch has been met with enthusiasm, as 428 units were booked during the six-day event. The unveiling took place at the 'Yamaha Blue Chamber' (Stall TW8 & TW10), where the motorcycle was a primary attraction from August 25 to August 30.

Price and variants in Nepal

  • Red XSR155: Rs 5.39 lakh (Rs 5,39,900)
  • Grey XSR155: Rs 5.59 lakh (Rs 5,59,900)
  • Metallic Black XSR155: Rs 5.59 lakh (Rs 5,59,900)

The bike is aimed at riders who want a daily‑use machine with retro design but modern hardware. The XSR 155 is entering a market crowded with new motorcycle brands and models, reflecting a shift in buyer preferences towards design, brand image, performance, technology, comfort, and lifestyle appeal.

Engine and performance

The XSR155 uses the same platform as the R15 and MT‑15, with a 155 cc, liquid‑cooled, single‑cylinder VVA engine producing 18.4 PS of power and 14.2 Nm of torque, paired with a 6‑speed gearbox and assist & slipper clutch. This gives the XSR 155 a familiar performance foundation rather than an entirely new mechanical package, offering a sporty mechanical character with a neo-retro appearance.

Design and hardware

Key chassis and styling highlights include a DeltaBox frame, round LED headlight, teardrop fuel tank, kerb weight of 137 kg and 120 mm ground clearance. The design gives the motorcycle a distinctive road presence, looking classic at first glance but not outdated.

Suspension hardware comprises USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear, while braking duty is handled by dual disc brakes with dual‑channel ABS, bringing modern safety to this retro‑styled machine.

Yamaha's stall at NADA 2026 received the 'Best Stall Award' for its innovative concept and engaging presentation. The XSR155's retro-modern design was a focal point, drawing attention with its classic teardrop fuel tank and round LED headlight.

During the launch, MAW Group's Chairman Vishnu Kumar Agrawal spoke about Yamaha's longstanding emotional connection with riders and introduced Yamaha's global 'Faster Sons' philosophy, which blends the brand's legacy with modern performance needs. He emphasized that motorcycles are increasingly becoming a way to express identity, personality, and lifestyle for Nepali riders.

In addition to the XSR155, Yamaha also showcased its broader lineup, including the R15, the updated RayZR 125 Hybrid series, Yamaha R15 V3, Yamaha Aerox S 155, Yamaha MT-15, Yamaha MT-15 v2, and Yamaha Aerox 155, confirming the official entry of the neo-retro model into the Nepali market. The XSR 155 was also available for special pre-booking during the launch period, giving early customers an opportunity to secure one of the first units to arrive in Nepal. Interested buyers can check out the XSR155 at the NADA Auto Show 2026 and at MAW Rides dealerships across Nepal.

The price of motorcycles has increased significantly in recent years, affecting buying decisions. As the purchase value rises, customers tend to consider more than just styling and engine performance. Service availability, spare parts, maintenance costs, and resale value also become important. This gives established brands like Yamaha, which has a long presence in Nepal and operates its sales and service network through MAW Rides, an advantage in the premium 150cc segment.

The NAIMA Mobility Expo also highlighted the trend towards premium motorcycles. No new small-capacity commuter motorcycles were launched at the two shows, with premium motorcycles and electric two-wheelers dominating the new launches. Among the new models introduced were the Morbidelli T250X, priced at Rs 620,000, and the Ultraviolette X47 CrossOver, available in two variants priced at Rs 685,000 and Rs 1.04 million. The Triumph Speed T4, priced at Rs 650,000, also made its debut, further expanding the choices for Nepali riders seeking premium options.
