Hyundai has unveiled the fifth-generation Tucson in South Korea, showcasing a new boxy design, larger body, and a thoroughly updated interior as the SUV prepares to enter global markets as a 2027 model. This new iteration follows Hyundai's 'Art of Steel' design philosophy, emphasizing a bold and rugged look.

In Nepal, the current Hyundai Tucson diesel range is priced between Rs 107.96 lakh and Rs 162.96 lakh across 7 variants. The GL 2WD MT base diesel starts at Rs 107.96 lakh, while the top diesel GLX 4WD AT TURBO sits at Rs 162.96 lakh. The Tucson currently sits above the Hyundai CRETA (Rs 55.56 lakh – Rs 80.56 lakh) and Hyundai VENUE (Rs 48.96 lakh – Rs 67.96 lakh), and is priced close to Hyundai’s EV flagships like the IONIQ 5 at Rs 103.96 lakh and CRETA EV at Rs 51.96 lakh – Rs 76.96 lakh.

Bigger body, more road presence

The new-generation Tucson now measures 4,700 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,685 mm in height, with a 2,785 mm wheelbase. Compared to the outgoing model, the SUV is 60 mm longer, 40 mm wider, and 20 mm taller, with a 30 mm longer wheelbase. Hyundai states that these changes are aimed at boosting cabin space and giving the SUV a stronger road presence.

Second-row comfort has also been improved on paper. Headroom for rear passengers now reaches 1,031 mm, an increase of 29 mm. To make getting in and out easier, the rear doors can now open up to 83 degrees, wider than before.

Boxier, tougher exterior design

Hyundai has moved away from the sharp, highly sculpted surfaces of the previous Tucson to a more upright and squared-off look. The front end gets a wide, vertical-faced fascia with a black grille and a slim full-width LED light bar running above it, complemented by vertical LED strips on both sides. At the corners sit architecturally inspired H-edge daytime running lights, part of what Hyundai calls its “Art of Still” lighting design.

On the side, the SUV features squared wheel arches and more pronounced fenders, reinforcing a more rugged profile. At the rear, a horizontal light bar stretches across the tailgate, with upright red elements on either side. The Hyundai logo sits above the “Tucson” script in the center of the tailgate. Chunky bumpers further add to its rugged look.

Hyundai will offer the new Tucson in eight exterior colour options, with five new shades added to the palette.

New cabin layout and features

Inside, the new Tucson shifts to a more premium and tech-focused layout. The dashboard houses two large digital displays housed within a single frame – a digital instrument cluster for the driver and a large infotainment touchscreen for navigation and media. The two-spoke steering wheel retains physical buttons, while the cabin uses orange ambient lighting on the dashboard and door panels. The seats and door pads use light-coloured leather, giving the interior a brighter appearance.

Pleos Connect System

Hyundai's newer models, including the Tucson, will feature the Pleos Connect system, which integrates the infotainment and instrument cluster into a single screen. The system includes a large central screen and a slim 9.9-inch driver display. However, the slim digital display is no longer available on base variants of the 2027 Elantra and global-spec Ioniq 3. In Korea, buyers can add the slim display to the Elantra for US$255 (Rs 24,000). Pleos Connect will be introduced in India in 2027, expected in new-gen Creta and Tucson.

Rugged XRT trim and powertrains

For buyers who enjoy mild off-road adventures, Hyundai is preparing a more rugged XRT trim with tougher styling cues compared to the standard variants. Hyundai has not yet released engine details for the fifth-generation Tucson. However, based on the outgoing model, it is expected that both hybrid and non-hybrid powertrain options will continue globally. Specific engine options, launch timelines, and pricing for Nepal have not been announced yet.

For now, the development signals that the next Tucson will be larger, boxier, and more practical, with a more spacious and tech-rich cabin than the SUV currently on sale in Nepal.
