Where it sits in Hyundai Nepal's lineup
Hyundai's IONIQ 9 has landed in Nepal as the brand's new electric flagship. It has been announced but is not yet on sale here. Verified ex-showroom price stands at Rs 219.96 lakh.
The IONIQ 9 sits above most Hyundai models already on sale in Nepal, though not all. The Hyundai Palisade costs more, priced at Rs 235 lakh–Rs 235.96 lakh. Just below that comes the IONIQ 9 at Rs 219.96 lakh. Next in line is the Hyundai Santa Fe at Rs 189 lakh–Rs 189.96 lakh. Further down sit the Hyundai Tucson (Rs 107.96 lakh–Rs 162.96 lakh), the Hyundai IONIQ 5 (Rs 103.96 lakh), and the Hyundai Kona (Rs 59.96 lakh–Rs 64.96 lakh).
How it compares with Kia EV9
The closest rival is the Kia EV9, priced at Rs 179 lakh. The Hyundai costs more. Between the two full-size electric SUVs on offer in Nepal, the IONIQ 9 is the pricier pick.
Hyundai has kept the spec sheet simple. The Nepal-bound IONIQ 9 comes in a single variant, listed at Rs 219.96 lakh. It's a 7-seater, three-row electric SUV, built on Hyundai Motor Group's E-GMP platform. Kia's EV9 rides on the same underlying architecture.
The design follows a large, boxy body with pixel-style lighting and a flat floor. Third-row space is built for adults, not just kids on short trips. Its long body and price tag point to one role: this is a halo model for Hyundai, not a volume seller.
For Nepali buyers, the IONIQ 9 won't be a mainstream EV. It's Hyundai's most premium electric SUV in the market. The price puts it firmly at the luxury end of the segment.
