Indian carmaker Tata Motors has further widened its lead in the country’s electric car market, with more than 12,500 EVs registered in July 2026, according to sector data. That performance keeps Tata comfortably ahead of other electric car brands in India and matters for Nepal too, because many of these same models are now sold here.

Tata still the top EV brand in India

  • Tata EV registrations in India, July 2026: over 12,584 units (according to Indian market data)
  • Competitors like Mahindra, JSW MG Motor, Maruti Suzuki and VinFast followed behind with lower EV registration figures.

Tata’s strong showing is driven by its growing range of electric SUVs and sedans, built on dedicated EV platforms and backed by wide charging and service coverage in India. These volumes help the company invest more in battery technology, safety and software, which ultimately benefits Nepali buyers choosing Tata EVs.

In the broader passenger vehicle market, Tata Motors ranked second with 58,774 registrations, posting a robust 36.84% YoY growth. This growth underscores Tata's expanding influence in the automotive sector, not just in EVs but across all passenger vehicles.

Maruti Suzuki's Dominance in Passenger Vehicles

Maruti Suzuki remained India's largest passenger vehicle brand with retail sales of 1,61,873 units in July 2026, up 19.70% from a year earlier. The company continued to dominate the market with a 38.86% share, meaning nearly four out of every ten passenger vehicles registered during the month wore a Maruti Suzuki badge.

According to Sipradi’s announcements, these models come with 8‑year / 160,000 km warranty on battery and motor and around 3‑year / 120,000–125,000 km warranty on the vehicle, which is important for long‑term ownership.

Why Tata’s India performance matters for Nepal

For Nepali buyers, Tata’s continued dominance in India’s EV market signals:

  • Stronger parts and service support due to high regional volumes.
  • Faster technology updates, as seen with the move from the original Nexon EV to the Nexon EV Max and the newer Nexon K3 EV.
  • Better long‑term confidence in resale and reliability, supported by large numbers of vehicles in daily use across the region.

For anyone considering an electric SUV in Nepal, Tata’s Nexon EV, Nexon EV Max and Nexon K3 EV stand out as established options backed by strong regional sales and dedicated local support, rather than niche or low‑volume imports.
