BYD is preparing a significant update for its compact electric hatchback, known as the Seagull in China and the Atto 1 in Nepal. The second-generation model has been revealed in China, introducing a shift to a rear-wheel-drive layout. This change allows for the addition of a front trunk under the hood.
Performance sees a notable increase. The new model uses a 95 kW motor producing approximately 127 hp, compared to the 55 kW motor in the current version. The top speed has also risen to 150 km/h.
The second-gen BYD Seagull (Atto 1) is reportedly about 425 mm longer with a 2,650 mm wheelbase and five seats. This makes it a bigger and more practical city hatchback, appealing to Kathmandu families who need more rear seat space.
Two LFP battery packs are reported: a 30 kWh pack offering about 320 km CLTC and a 39.2 kWh pack providing about 420 km CLTC. The 39.2 kWh pack matches the Geely EX2 and Deepal S03 in battery size and CLTC range class.
In the Nepali market, the current BYD Atto 1 Premium (Long Range) 2026 Facelift is priced at Rs 34.80 lakh. This model sits below the BYD Dolphin, which is priced at Rs 41.15 lakh, and the BYD Atto 2 EV, which ranges from Rs 45.95 lakh to Rs 52 lakh. It is also more affordable than the BYD M6 at Rs 58.90 lakh, the BYD E6 at Rs 59 lakh, and the BYD Atto 3, which is priced between Rs 62.90 lakh and Rs 78 lakh.
Beyond the drivetrain, the updated vehicle features an independent multi-link rear suspension and wider 205/60 R16 tires. The interior has been redesigned with a floating central touchscreen, a two-spoke steering wheel, and physical toggle switches. Exterior changes include split taillights and a large roof spoiler. An optional roof-mounted LiDAR sensor is expected to support the DiPilot 300 driver-assistance system.
Pre-orders in China are open, but official pricing there is not confirmed. However, one outlet expects it to be under 100,000 yuan. Cimex Inc., the official distributor for BYD in Nepal, has not yet announced when this updated model will arrive in the country. Pricing and availability for the Nepali market remain unconfirmed.
Our own record on this
BYD Dolphin: 1 · BYD Atto 2 EV: 3 · BYD M6: 1. Each is a dated change we applied to a published ex-showroom price after checking it. A logged change may be a distributor's revision or our own correction coming into line with the official figure — the log says which way each one moved, and when, not why.
