JSW MG Motor India has confirmed that its new three-row SUV, expected to be called Hector Hawk, will debut in India on August 26 with battery-electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. This will be the first model based on the company’s new ADAPT multi-powertrain platform, capable of supporting EV, PHEV, range-extender, and strong-hybrid setups.

What India is getting

The Hector Hawk, potentially named Hector Tomahawk in India, is derived from the Wuling Starlight 560 sold overseas, and measures around 4.745m long, 1.85m wide, and 1.77m tall, putting it in the same size band as popular 7-seater SUVs in our region. The SUV is also expected to share dimensions with the Wuling Eksion, measuring around 4.7 meters in length.

Recent sightings during a TVC shoot at Magarpatta City in Pune reveal a clean and upright fascia with a closed-off upper section for the EV, featuring a prominent MG badge. Slim horizontal LED DRLs extend from the center, while the main headlamp units are positioned vertically at the outer edges of the bumper. The SUV maintains a conventional, boxy shape, finished in a light green shade with contrasting black elements, including a black roof and roof rails.

Key expected mechanicals:

  • EV variant: ~69.2kWh battery, 204PS, 310Nm, claimed range around 530km (CLTC). The vehicle supports DC fast charging, with 30% to 80% achievable in around 20 minutes.
  • PHEV variant: 1.5-litre petrol engine with 20.5kWh battery, total output about 197PS, 230Nm, claimed electric-only range ~125km.

Expected feature highlights include:

  • Minimalist cabin with 8.8-inch digital cluster and 12.8-inch touchscreen
  • Panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, 50W wireless charging
  • Automatic climate control with rear AC vents, 6-speaker audio system
  • Safety kit with 6 airbags, TPMS, hill-hold, electronic parking brake, rear camera with sensors, and ADAS driver-assist features

In India, the EV version is expected to sit above the current Hector and compete with upcoming electric SUVs like the Mahindra XEV 9S, while the PHEV will target models such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari.

Where Nepal stands today

MG has a presence in Nepal, primarily through imports from China and India, with models like ZS EV and HS already familiar to urban buyers. However, no Nepali distributor has yet announced the Hector Hawk, no bookings are open locally, and there is no confirmed display at events such as NADA Auto Show. For now, this is India-only news that Nepal needs to watch rather than act on.

If JSW MG decides to export the Hector Hawk to Nepal in the future, the EV variant could become a new option for buyers who want a larger 7-seater electric SUV than current offerings like the ZS EV, while the PHEV variant would be attractive for those worried about charging infrastructure outside Kathmandu but still wanting significant electric-only driving.

Potential implications for Nepali buyers

  • A 7-seater EV with a ~530km claimed range would be one of the longest-range electric SUVs in Nepal if launched, useful for intercity travel.
  • A PHEV with ~125km pure-EV range could cover most daily commutes on electricity, with petrol backup for long trips, easing range anxiety in areas with fewer fast chargers.
  • Pricing, if the model comes here via India, would likely sit above the current Hector’s India pricing; a rough conversion from Indian ex-showroom mid-Rs 20 lakh+ band would point to well above Rs 80–90 lakh on-road in Nepal once customs, excise, and dealer margins are added.

None of this is confirmed yet. For now, Hector Hawk is a significant India launch with strong future relevance for Nepal, but not a live option for Nepali buyers until MG’s local partner formally commits to importing it.
