Where the BYD Sealion 7 EV sits in Nepal’s market

BYD’s Sealion 7 EV is positioned as a premium mid‑size electric SUV above the Atto 3 in Nepal, aimed at buyers who want more space, range, and features without going into ultra‑luxury territory. The latest update introduces a more powerful 170 kW electric motor, enhancing its performance.

Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd. is the authorized distributor, and the updated Sealion 7 was launched at the NADA Auto Show 2026. It is now priced at Rs 9.299 million, reflecting a Rs 1.314 million increase over the previous version, which was priced at Rs 7.985 million. The increase buys a much stronger motor rather than just a price rise. It continues to use a 71.8 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 440 km on a full charge.

With 36 showrooms and 15 service centers across Nepal backing it, BYD’s network is now wide enough that the Sealion 7 is a realistic daily‑use EV option for buyers in Kathmandu and major cities, rather than a niche experiment.

Looks, design, and build

The Sealion 7 is part of BYD’s Ocean Series, and that shows in the design language. At 4,830 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, and 1,620 mm tall, it sits squarely in the mid‑size SUV class, and the 2,930 mm wheelbase is generous by any standard. The SUV is based on BYD's e-Platform 3.0 Evo and uses the company's Cell-to-Body technology.

The exterior details underline its premium intent with features like alloy wheels, LED lighting all round, and an electrochromic panoramic sunroof. The updated model also includes DiSus-C intelligent damping body control and adaptive suspension.

Inside, the cabin leans hard into a modern, tech‑forward aesthetic with features like ventilated seats with a massage function, a new four-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, and a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment screen. The 128-color ambient lighting and Nappa leather seats enhance the premium feel.

Features and equipment

Comfort and interior convenience

The Sealion 7’s interior is packed with features designed for comfort and convenience, such as power-adjustable ventilated seats, automatic dual‑zone air‑conditioning, and a 50-watt wireless charging pad. The cabin also includes a 220-volt power supply for laptops and NFC keyless entry.

Infotainment and tech

The SUV features a 15.6-inch intelligent rotating touch screen display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12-speaker audio system. New additions include a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display and voice control.

Safety and driver assistance

Safety remains a strong point with 11 airbags, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS. The updated Sealion 7 includes BYD's DiPilot 100 advanced driver assistance system, also known as God's Eye, with 12 ultrasonic sensors, a 5 mm-wave radar, and 11 cameras. Additional features include tyre pressure monitoring and front and rear parking sensors.

Motor, battery, and performance

Nepal now gets the 170 kW Sealion 7, which produces a maximum torque of 380 Nm. The SUV continues to offer a claimed range of 440 km on a full charge, maintaining its long-distance capability.

Verdict: who the BYD Sealion 7 EV suits

The BYD Sealion 7 EV in Nepal is best understood as a long‑range, comfort‑focused premium electric SUV rather than a pure performance machine. It suits buyers who prioritize safety, cabin comfort, and rich technology over outright acceleration. The updated motor enhances its appeal, making it one of the most compelling premium EV SUVs currently available in Nepal.
