BYD’s latest electric vehicles, the Atto 1 and Atto 2, have quickly become popular choices among Nepali buyers, especially in urban centers. These models expand BYD’s reach beyond the earlier Atto 3 and Dolphin, offering more options across different budgets.
Market performance
According to market import figures, over 3,500 units of Atto 1 and Atto 2 were imported into Nepal in their first year. The Atto 2 accounts for more than 2,200 units, while the Atto 1 contributes roughly 1,300 units. This indicates strong demand for both the compact SUV and the small city hatchback.
For distributor Cimex Inc., these numbers help offset slowing interest in older BYD models and keep annual sales targets on track. The two new cars are also pulling first-time EV buyers into BYD showrooms.
BYD Atto 2: compact SUV for families
- Positioning: Compact electric SUV placed between the Dolphin and Atto 3 in BYD’s Nepal line-up.
- Price: The Atto 2 was introduced at an introductory price of around Rs 44 lakh.
- Battery and range: The Atto 2 uses a 51.13 kWh LFP battery and a 100 kW motor with 290 Nm, with a claimed range of about 345 km per charge.
- Ground clearance: With around 200 mm ground clearance, it is suitable for mixed urban and highway use.
The Atto 2, now spotted testing in India, is offered internationally in both EV and PHEV versions. The EV variant comes with a 45.1kWh or 64.8kWh battery, offering a range of up to 430 km. It features a front-axle-mounted electric motor producing up to 201hp and 310Nm.
BYD Atto 1: small hatchback for city use
- Positioning: BYD’s entry-level electric hatchback targeting daily commuters and first-time EV buyers.
- Price: Local dealers pitch it as an affordable option below the Atto 2.
- Use case: The Atto 1’s compact size and short footprint are ideal for dense city areas such as Kathmandu.

Upcoming Upgrades at the Nepal Mobility Expo
BYD has introduced significant upgrades to its Atto series at the NAIMA Mobility Expo 2026. Cimex Inc., the authorized distributor of BYD in Nepal, unveiled the new generation Atto 1, Atto 2, and 2026 Atto 3, featuring enhancements in technology, design, comfort, and features.
The Atto 1 now includes a 360-degree camera in both its Dynamic and Premium variants, enhancing driver awareness in tight spaces. The Premium variant also adds auto-fold ORVMs for added convenience. The new Atto 1 Dynamic is priced at Rs 30.75 lakh, while the Premium is Rs 34.80 lakh.
The Atto 2 series introduces a new Essential variant with a 45.12 kWh battery, offering a range of 312 km per WLTP. The Essential variant is priced at Rs 45.95 lakh, while the Premium variant remains at Rs 48.99 lakh.
The 2026 Atto 3 features a bold new design and significant upgrades in technology and comfort, including a Dynamic Dragon Face design, ventilated seats, and an 8-speaker Dirac HD sound system. The Advanced variant is priced at Rs 62.90 lakh.
