Tata Motors has officially launched the Aeris compact sedan in India, replacing the Tigor in its lineup. Prices start at 529,000 Indian rupees and go up to 974,000 Indian rupees (ex-showroom). The Aeris retains the compact sedan shape but introduces several new design elements.
Exterior and cabin
The Aeris features slimmer LED headlamps with integrated daytime running lights, a gloss-black grille, a revised bumper, and LED fog lamps. At the rear, it gets redesigned LED tail lamps connected by an illuminated strip, with new styling elements on the boot lid and bumper. The Aeris badge is placed below the Tata logo. The sedan rides on new 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and is available in six exterior colors, including Dandeli Drizzle, Nitro Crimson, Dune Glow, Daytona Grey, Pure Gray, and Pristine White. All versions come with a black roof.
Inside, the Aeris offers a redesigned cabin inspired by the Tiago, featuring a lighter color theme and a layered dashboard. It includes a 12.7-cm digital instrument cluster and a 26.03-cm HD touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features include connected-car technology, a six-speaker audio system, and wireless phone charging. The front seats offer ventilation, and higher variants provide leatherette upholstery and additional thigh support. The Aeris also includes automatic climate control, rear AC vents, and 65W Type-C charging ports.
Engines
The Aeris is powered by a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder petrol engine, producing 84 BHP and 113 Nm of torque. A factory-fitted CNG version delivers 75 BHP and 97 Nm. Both versions offer manual and AMT gearboxes.
Safety and Durability
Safety features are comprehensive, including six airbags, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program, hill-hold assist, a tire pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX mounts. The Aeris also includes a 360-degree camera, a blind-view monitor, and a multi-view digital video recorder. Automatic headlamps and rain-sensing wipers are also available.
In a unique demonstration of its structural durability, Tata Motors conducted a test where the Aeris was buried under 20 tons of gravel and stone debris. This test highlighted the sedan's structural strength and the safety of its CNG system. Despite some visible damage, such as a slightly deformed roof and broken windows, the passenger cabin remained intact, and the car was able to drive away under its own power.
The Aeris measures 3,995 mm in length and has a 2,450 mm wheelbase. While the Aeris is currently an India-focused development, its enhanced features and competitive pricing make it a promising option for Nepali buyers once it becomes available.
