KATHMANDU: Tata Punch EV and Dongfeng Nammi Vigo now directly clash on price in Nepal, with the top Punch EV and base Vigo both listed at Rs 37.99 lakh ex-showroom, but they answer very different needs.

It overlaps the Altroz, and is close to the XPRES-T EV, but no source provides current Nepal prices for these specific models, so their exact figures are omitted here. The petrol Tata Punch sits nearby in Tata’s showroom, but again, detailed Tata Punch petrol prices for Nepal are not stated in the sources consulted, so specific numbers are left out.

Dongfeng’s Nammi Vigo E2 at Rs 37.99 lakh arrives above the smaller Nammi Box and Nammi, and below the larger Dongfeng E-007. However, no source used for this article states Nepal prices for Nammi Box, Nammi, or Dongfeng E-007, so their prices are not included.

Size and space: compact city car vs larger crossover

Tata Punch EV
Image: Tata Punch EV — interior
  • Tata Punch EV (Empowered+ S 40, Rs 37.99 lakh) – Length 3,880 mm, width 1,742 mm, wheelbase 2,445 mm, ground clearance 195 mm, boot space 366 liters.
  • Dongfeng Nammi Vigo E2 (Rs 37.99 lakh) – Length 4,306 mm, width 1,868 mm, wheelbase 2,715 mm, ground clearance 190 mm, boot space 500 liters.
Dongfeng Nammi Vigo

The Nammi Vigo is clearly the larger vehicle. It is longer and wider, with a much longer wheelbase and around 500 liters of boot space, so it will feel closer to a full-size crossover for families, highway trips and luggage-heavy use.

The Punch EV is notably smaller, with a shorter length and wheelbase and 366 liters of boot space. Its higher 195 mm ground clearance and compact footprint make it easier to take through narrow urban roads, tight parking spots and rougher patches where a long wheelbase can scrape.

Battery, motor and range

Tata Punch EV
Image: Tata Punch EV — battery and charging
  • Punch EV 40 kWh variant (Empowered+ S 40) – 40 kWh battery, 95 kW motor, claimed range around 315 km per full charge.
  • Nammi Vigo E2+ – 51.87 kWh battery, 99 kW motor, claimed range around 350 km per full charge.

On the spec sheet, the Vigo has the advantage in battery size, motor output and rated range. The larger 51.87 kWh pack and 99 kW motor help it deliver roughly 350 km of usable range, which will appeal to buyers who frequently drive outside the valley or want fewer charging stops.

The Punch EV’s 40 kWh battery and 95 kW motor give a slightly lower around 315 km claimed range, but the car is lighter, so the performance gap is not as big as the numbers suggest. For typical city and short intercity use, the Punch’s range will be enough for most owners who can charge regularly.

Features, tech and ownership experience

Modern EV buyers now expect big screens, smart connectivity and advanced safety kit. Here, the Nammi Vigo leans toward a more tech-heavy package, with a focus on large touchscreen interfaces, connected features, 360-degree camera and smart driving aids in its higher variant.

The Punch EV counters with a more familiar Tata cabin, including features like a sunroof on higher variants, and a layout many existing Tata owners will find easy to use. Where it really stands out is after-sales support: Tata’s established network and its India-based production help with parts availability and relatively lower maintenance costs.

Dongfeng’s Nammi Vigo is sold by MAW Vriddhi, which is actively growing its sales and service presence across Nepal, but its network and parts history are younger compared to Tata’s.

Who should choose which?

At Rs 37.99 lakh, buyers are now choosing between two very different EVs at the same price:

  • Choose Tata Punch EV Empowered+ S 40 if you want a compact EV for daily city use, easier parking at home, better ground clearance for rough lanes, and the reassurance of Tata’s wide service network. For many urban households upgrading from Tiago/Altroz/NRG or petrol Punch, this is the natural electric step.
  • Choose Dongfeng Nammi Vigo E2 / E2+ if you need more interior and boot space, a larger, more comfortable crossover-like feel, and longer range with more tech features for highway trips and family use. It also opens a path up from the smaller Nammi and Nammi Box without jumping all the way to the costly E-007.

In short, Vigo offers more size, battery and range, while Punch EV offers compact dimensions, urban convenience and stronger service backing. The better choice depends less on price and more on how and where the vehicle will be used.
