The government is moving to tighten control over vehicle safety to reduce road accidents. A new bill, the Road Safety Bill 2083, has been submitted to the Federal Parliament to address rising concerns over vehicle modifications and poor-quality safety equipment.
Under the proposed legislation, the National Road Safety Council will receive specific legal authority to monitor and regulate vehicle standards. This includes strict oversight of unauthorized structural changes to vehicles, as well as the manufacturing and importation of body parts.
Key safety measures include:
- Strict enforcement of quality standards for helmets and seatbelts.
- Mandatory monitoring of vehicle repair workshops and factories.
- Enhanced mechanical and physical testing for public transport vehicles.
The bill aims to lower the risk of severe head injuries and fatalities caused by substandard protective gear. The Council will also have the power to issue direct recommendations to the government regarding necessary safety improvements. These regulations are designed to ensure that all vehicles and transport services operating on the road meet established safety criteria.
