The Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) met with the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Deepak Kumar Sah, on Thursday to discuss the impact of current agency registration rules on the automotive sector.
NAIMA representatives highlighted concerns regarding the requirement to deposit 0.5 percent of a company's capital when registering an agency or adding new products. They noted that the current definition of 'product' remains unclear. Under existing rules, different models of the same brand are treated as separate items, forcing businesses to provide individual deposits for each model. This practice ties up significant capital and increases the financial burden on importers.
Minister Sah responded positively to the concerns raised by the association. He committed to reviewing previous decisions and initiating a process to make agency registration rules more business-friendly. NAIMA has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the ministry by providing necessary data and suggestions during the review process.
Simplifying these regulations could significantly reduce operational costs for vehicle importers across Nepal.
