The Department of Transport Management is developing new guidelines to regulate electric vehicle imports in Nepal. Officials expect these rules to be implemented within the next two to three months.
Director Maniram Bhusal stated that the government is prioritizing road safety. A technical committee will inspect manufacturing plants to ensure only high-quality products enter the country. The department plans to verify original technical documents and assess how vehicles perform under local driving conditions.
To support these changes, the department is restructuring its internal operations. New units dedicated to safety, research and development, and quality control are being established. These branches will handle specific requirements for two, three, and four-wheeled vehicles.
Authorities are also focusing on the safety features of imported cars. Vehicles lacking essential systems like ABS, EBD, and hill-hold control will face stricter entry requirements. The department is also working on providing educational materials to help users manage emergency situations.
The government aims to improve vehicle quality and reduce accidents through these upcoming regulatory measures.
