Hyundai’s next-generation Kona has surfaced online before its official reveal, giving buyers an early look at a much more rugged and upright compact SUV. The new model appears to move away from a simple facelift and toward a full redesign, with Hyundai expected to position it more strongly as an SUV than before.

What the leaked design shows

The leaked image suggests a taller body, sharper surfaces, and a more squared-off stance. Styling cues also appear to borrow from Hyundai’s recent concept and EV models, including pixel-style lights, a clamshell-style bonnet, and a cleaner front-end layout.

For Nepalese buyers, that could make the Kona look more premium and more practical on the road, especially for those who prefer a stronger SUV presence over a soft crossover shape.

Interior and tech changes

The cabin is expected to be completely new as well. Hyundai is preparing its latest Pleos infotainment system, which runs on Android Automotive OS and is designed to feel more like a smartphone interface.

Expected features include: - 12.9-inch or 14.6-inch touchscreen, depending on variant - Optional digital driver display - Downloadable apps and customizable screens

Powertrain outlook

Hyundai has not officially confirmed the mechanical lineup. However, the new Kona is expected to continue with electric, hybrid, and petrol versions.

The hybrid variant is likely to use a 1.6-litre hybrid setup, while the electric version is expected to return as part of the next-generation range.

Launch timing

The leaked story points to a global arrival in 2027 or 2028. That timing is not officially confirmed by Hyundai, so buyers should treat it as an early industry expectation rather than a fixed launch date.

For Nepal, the key takeaway is simple: the next Kona looks set to become a more SUV-like and more tech-focused model, which could help it stand out if Hyundai later brings it to the local market.
