Changan’s EV brand Deepal has rolled out an updated version of the Deepal S05 electric SUV in China, featuring enhanced driving range and new intelligent driving features.

What has changed in China?

According to Deepal’s announcement from China, the revised S05:

  • Is offered only as a full-electric SUV.
  • Gets two battery options: a 56.12 kWh pack with a claimed 520 km CLTC range, and a 68.82 kWh pack with up to 620 km CLTC range.
  • Adds higher-spec driver assistance on top variants, using a 128‑channel LiDAR sensor supplied by Hesai and dual Horizon Robotics J6M chips to power advanced driver-assistance features.
  • The smart-cockpit chip has been upgraded to a 3-nanometer process, significantly improving system responsiveness.
  • Is open for pre-sale in China in the range of 119,900–151,900 yuan, roughly Rs 26–33 lakh when converted to Nepali currency. The pre-sales period runs from July 30 to August 6.

Deepal first introduced the S05 globally in October 2024. Since then, the model has grown into one of the brand’s core products, with reported monthly worldwide sales of around 30,000 units according to the company. In June alone, Deepal sold 33,625 vehicles globally, marking a 12.5% year-on-year increase.

Deepal brand overview

Deepal is an electric-focused sub-brand of Changan, launched in 2022. It currently sells several EVs, including sedans and SUVs, in multiple markets. Deepal has delivered about 900,000 vehicles since its establishment, with overseas markets becoming an important pillar of its growth.

The S05 sits in the compact/mid-size electric SUV segment. It is aimed at buyers looking for longer range and modern driver-assistance technology.

What this means for Nepal

Deepal already has a presence in Nepal. According to the distributor’s current line-up, Deepal sells the S05, L07, S07 and E07 in the country.

For Nepali buyers, the S05 is currently offered in two variants:

  • Deepal S05 Plus – priced at around Rs 57.99 lakh
  • Deepal S05 Max – priced at around Rs 62.49 lakh (Black interior) and Rs 62.99 lakh (Orange interior)

These prices refer to the versions officially sold in Nepal at present. The Chinese update with LiDAR and longer claimed range (up to 620 km CLTC) has not yet been formally announced for the Nepali market.

Key takeaway for Nepali buyers

  • The updated Chinese S05 points to where the model is heading globally: larger batteries, longer range and more advanced driver assistance.
  • If and when this refreshed S05 comes to Nepal, buyers can expect higher-range variants and more sophisticated safety and assistance features compared with the current S05 Plus and S05 Max sold here.

For now, Nepali customers interested in Deepal’s compact electric SUV can choose between the existing S05 Plus and S05 Max. It is worth keeping an eye on future announcements in case the LiDAR-equipped, 620 km CLTC S05 is introduced locally.
