Honda R&D, in partnership with Taisei Corporation and Taisei Rotec, has developed a wireless system to charge electric vehicles while they are in motion. The technology uses power transmission equipment embedded directly into the road surface to transfer electricity to a receiver installed on the vehicle.
Demonstration testing is scheduled to start in the Japanese fiscal year 2027, which begins on April 1, 2027. The project will include trials on the Tateyama Expressway in Chiba Prefecture, managed by East Nippon Expressway Company. Initial efforts will focus on commercial EVs used for logistics and transportation. The system is designed to support high-speed travel and can deliver power outputs of up to 150 kW.

This development aims to reduce the need for frequent charging stops and may allow manufacturers to use smaller, lighter battery packs. The partners are currently refining pavement structures to ensure the embedded equipment can withstand heavy vehicle traffic. While this project is advancing in Japan, there are no plans for similar infrastructure in Nepal.
