Five big Nepali groups now drive most auto brands

Nepal’s vehicle market is now dominated by five big business houses that together handle around 30 international brands across cars, SUVs, EVs, motorcycles and commercial vehicles.

Laxmi Group has long been active in the sector, looking after Hyundai, BAIC, BMW, Jetour, Kaiyi and SML Isuzu. Hyundai is one of the most established names here, and its electric models are now a familiar sight. BMW covers the premium end, while BAIC, Jetour, Kaiyi and SML Isuzu extend the group into SUV and commercial segments.

MAW Group manages Yamaha, Skoda, Jeep, Deepal, Neta, Nammi and Eicher. Yamaha anchors its two-wheeler business, Skoda and Jeep serve buyers of premium cars and SUVs, and Deepal, Neta and Nammi add electric options. Eicher keeps MAW in the commercial vehicle lane.

Sharda Group brings Japanese, Chinese and new EV names under one roof with Nissan, Omoda, Jaecoo, iCAUR and Chery. Omoda, Jaecoo, iCAUR and Chery focus on SUVs and EVs, targeting buyers who are now open to newer Chinese brands.

Golchha Organization runs Citroen, Peugeot, Leapmotor, Ford and GSW MG. Citroen and Peugeot cover French passenger cars, Ford gives a familiar American badge, while Leapmotor and GSW MG push into electric territory.

Vishal Group controls MG, GWM, Suzuki Motorcycle, Volkswagen, Mazda and Hongqi. MG and GWM hold ground in EV and SUV segments, Suzuki Motorcycle is strong in everyday two-wheelers, and Volkswagen, Mazda and Hongqi speak to buyers looking at premium and passenger cars.

For Nepali buyers, this means most showrooms and offers trace back to one of these five groups. With Chinese EV brands spreading fast, competition now runs both between brands and between the business houses that sell them. How these groups position their portfolios is likely to decide how flexible or limited your future brand choices feel.
