Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has officially entered the Namibian market. Local distributor Pupkewitz Motors is now the brand's representative in the country.
Vehicles are available through retail outlets in Windhoek, Walvis Bay, and Ongwediva. The lineup includes seven models: Dolphin, Dolphin Surf, Sealion 5, Sealion 6, Shark 6, Sealion 7, and Seal Performance.

Nico Peters, franchise executive at Pupkewitz Motors, stated that the partnership aims to provide customers with direct experience of new energy technology. The company intends to educate buyers on electric mobility while offering a variety of vehicle options.

This move follows a trend of increasing popularity for Chinese automotive brands in Namibia. Recent data indicates that brands like Haval, Jetour, and Chery have already established a presence in the local passenger car market. BYD's arrival is expected to increase competition within the new energy vehicle sector.
