BYD has teamed up with China’s state-owned Sinopec to turn a petrol station in Shanghai into a flash-charging hub.

The site has 12 charging stalls, a driver rest room, and a 24-hour convenience store. It is the first hub the two companies have jointly transformed and are operating, and they plan to convert more Sinopec fuel stations in the same way.

The station is near Shanghai International Airport, a high-speed rail station, and a metro line.

BYD says the hub uses four Blade batteries as a power-grid buffer, with a combined capacity of 169 kWh to 185 kWh. The system draws only 100 kW from the national grid while helping vehicles charge quickly.

BYD claims its flash-charging system can take an EV from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes, and from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes. Even at -30 degrees Celsius, charging time is said to rise by only 3 minutes.
