Mahindra has started public road testing for its upcoming electric Thar. The prototype features a five-door layout with a boxy, rugged design inspired by the Vision T concept.
Design elements include a wide grille with vertical details, squared-off headlamps, and a flat bonnet. The vehicle sits on large wheels, estimated at 19 or 20 inches. Unlike previous concepts, this test unit lacks an externally mounted spare wheel. The interior includes a digital instrument display and large grab handles near the A-pillars. The SUV may use an independent rear suspension setup.
Mahindra first showcased the Thar.e concept in 2023. While the company plans to roll out products based on its NU_IQ platform starting in 2027, an official launch date for the electric Thar remains unannounced. A potential arrival in 2028 or later is expected.

This model will compete in the emerging lifestyle electric SUV segment. The development marks a significant step toward bringing the electric Thar to production.
