Mahindra's Thar 3-door SUV facelift has been caught testing in India again. The latest spy shots give a clearer look at the updated front end.
Design changes spotted
- The test vehicle carries a new five-slot front grille with circular LED headlamps on either side. The grille is inspired by the Thar Roxx, which is the 5-door version of Thar.
- The front fenders look reworked, with new position lamps added. Circular projector LED headlights now feature C-shaped LED DRLs.
- The bumper may be the same as Thar Roxx, including LED fog lights with cornering function.
- Spy images also show a new five-spoke alloy wheel design, possibly 18-inchers, indicating a mild cosmetic update, not a full overhaul.
- Other additions expected include 360-degree cameras, rear disc brakes, and possibly front and side parking sensors.
Interior and features
Inside, the Mahindra Thar facelift is expected to get more features such as a TFT instrument cluster, auto climate control, auto dimming IRVM, and ventilated front seats with perforated leatherette upholstery. The higher-spec LX trim might offer Level-2 ADAS for added safety. There is also a wish for Harman Kardon speakers and soft touch plastics like in Thar Roxx.
Engines and drivetrains
The facelifted Thar 3-door is expected to keep its current engine range:
- 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine
- 1.5-litre diesel engine
- 2.2-litre diesel engine
These are likely to stay paired with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes. Four-wheel drive will remain available on selected variants. The update looks focused on styling and features. The mechanical package stays the same.
Mahindra's broader SUV strategy
Indian SUV maker Mahindra is preparing to launch three new SUV models by 2027. The upcoming lineup will include the Thar 3-door facelift, BE 07 electric SUV, and Vision S compact SUV.
- The BE 07 will be Mahindra's second major upcoming product and could be unveiled after the start of 2027, potentially at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2027.
- The Vision S is expected to be based on Mahindra's new NU-IQ modular platform.
This strategy will allow Mahindra to continue developing vehicles with different powertrains instead of focusing on a single technology.
What it means for Nepal
The Mahindra Thar is one of the most anticipated off-road SUVs among Nepali buyers. No official Nepal launch or pricing has been announced yet. Until a local distributor confirms plans, Nepali enthusiasts can only track the facelifted Thar 3-door through updates from India. Among the three new SUVs Mahindra is set to launch, the Thar 3-door facelift is expected to hold the most appeal for the Nepali market.
