Kathmandu Metropolitan City has officially started a bike ambulance service to improve emergency health response times. Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol inaugurated the service at Kathmandu Plaza by handing over two-wheeled vehicles to the Nepal Ambulance Service.
Heavy traffic often prevents standard four-wheeled ambulances from reaching patients quickly. These motorcycles allow trained Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to bypass congestion and reach patients during the critical 'golden hour' for life-saving care. The EMTs will provide immediate first aid to stabilize patients before they are transported to a hospital by a larger ambulance.
This service is not designed to transport patients. It is a dedicated tool to get medical professionals to the scene as fast as possible. Residents requiring this emergency assistance should call 102.
This initiative aims to reduce response times in the city. It ensures that skilled personnel can provide care even when road conditions are difficult.
