Volkswagen has announced a global recall of approximately 2.86 million vehicles. The decision follows coordination with the German Federal Motor Transport Authority to address a potential technical fault in the steering system.
Engineers identified that bolts within the steering gear may corrode and break. This failure poses a significant safety risk, as drivers could lose control of the vehicle. The recall affects models produced between September 24, 2013, and July 1, 2024.

Impacted vehicles include:
- Volkswagen Golf, Tiguan, Touran, and Caddy
- Audi Q3

In total, the recall covers about 2.16 million Volkswagen units and over 696,000 Audi vehicles. Owners of these models should contact their local authorized service centers to verify if their specific vehicle is included in the safety campaign.
