Royal Enfield has begun testing an electric version of its popular Himalayan adventure motorcycle. The prototype was recently spotted undergoing rigorous trials in the challenging terrain of Ladakh.
Engineers are evaluating the bike's performance in extreme conditions, including high altitudes and low temperatures. The test setup includes a mobile charging unit to address the difficulties of powering an electric vehicle in remote, mountainous regions. This indicates the company is gathering data on battery range, power delivery, and thermal management under heavy load.
The prototype retains the core adventure styling of the current Himalayan. It features a tall windscreen, a round LED headlight, and a single-piece seat. Instead of a traditional fuel tank, the chassis houses a large battery pack and electric motor. The bike is equipped with premium components, including upside-down front forks, an Ohlins rear monoshock, and spoked wheels fitted with off-road tires. A large digital display is also visible, likely providing specific data on the electric powertrain.

Royal Enfield has not announced production plans or a market release date for this model. The company is currently using this prototype to gain experience with electric technology for future adventure motorcycles.
