BMW has rolled out a heavily updated 7 Series and i7 range in India, with deliveries there set to start from October 2026. The refresh brings new design, bigger battery options and more in-cabin tech to BMW’s flagship sedan.

Where it sits against BMW’s Nepal lineup

BMW already sells the 7 Series in Nepal at Rs 5,49,96,000 – Rs 5,95,00,000 ex-showroom across six variants:

  • 730Ld DPE Signature: Rs 5,49,96,000
  • 735i Sedan: the distributor has not announced a price for this variant
  • 740Li DPE Signature: the distributor has not announced a price for this variant
  • 740i M Sport: Rs 5,95,00,000
  • 745Le xDrive Hybrid: the distributor has not announced a price for this variant
  • 745Le xDrive (PHEV): the distributor has not announced a price for this variant

For context, BMW’s big SUVs are priced as follows:

  • BMW X7: the distributor has not announced a price for this variant range
  • BMW X5: the distributor has not announced a price for this variant range
  • BMW X3: the distributor has not announced a price for this variant range
  • BMW 5 Series: the distributor has not announced a price for this variant range
  • BMW iX3 (EV): the distributor has not announced a price for this variant

So the 7 Series already sits above the X5 and 5 Series and alongside the lower X7 variants in Nepal. Any facelifted 7 Series or i7 that eventually arrives here will remain one of the most expensive sedans you can buy new, likely only rivalled by the top X7.

What has changed in India’s new 7 Series and i7

The updated India range has three main variants:

  • BMW 740 M Sport (petrol)
  • BMW i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport (electric)
  • BMW i7 M70 xDrive (high-performance electric)

Key hardware changes:

  • i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport now uses a 112.5 kWh battery, makes 455 hp and 660 Nm, and does 0–100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.
  • Claimed WLTP range rises by 125 km to about 728 km, a big jump in usable range for long highway runs.
  • 740 M Sport keeps a 3.0‑litre six‑cylinder petrol with 400 hp and 540 Nm, and does 0–100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.
  • i7 M70 xDrive is the performance flagship with 680 hp, 1,015 Nm in Sport mode and up to 1,100 Nm with Launch Control/Sport Boost, and a 0–100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds. Claimed range is around 686 km (WLTP).

Charging and convenience:

  • Both electric versions support up to 250 kW DC fast charging, with a claimed 10–80% in about 28 minutes.
  • Buyers in India get a complimentary 22 kW AC wallbox charger and installation with the i7.

BMW is also assembling the i7 locally at its Chennai plant (apart from the i7 M70, which stays CBU), which signals that the brand is treating the electric 7 Series as a core product in the region.

Design and tech: what Nepali buyers should expect

The facelift brings a more expressive look:

  • BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille with lighting
  • Crystal headlights with Swarovski elements
  • Redesigned bumpers, flush door handles and new rear lights
  • M Sport versions get sportier bumpers, 20‑inch wheels and M Sport brakes

Inside, the tech package is a big step up from what the current Nepal‑spec 7 Series offers:

  • BMW Panoramic Vision projecting info across the lower windscreen
  • 17.9‑inch central touchscreen running BMW Operating System X
  • A new 14.6‑inch passenger touchscreen, which automatically darkens if the interior camera sees the driver’s gaze moving towards it
  • Rear passengers keep the big 31.3‑inch 8K Theatre Screen and Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound
  • Executive Lounge rear seating with up to 43 degrees recline
  • Updated automatic doors with radar-based detection for safer opening

For Nepali buyers used to the current 7 Series, this means that any future facelifted car would feel like a significant tech jump, closer to BMW’s latest Neue Klasse thinking than a mild refresh.

What it could mean for Nepal on price and availability

BMW’s authorised importer in Nepal has not announced the facelifted 7 Series or i7 for our market yet. There is no confirmed Nepal price or launch date.

However, a few clear pointers emerge:

  • With the petrol 740i M Sport already at Rs 5,95,00,000 in Nepal, a facelifted version with more kit is likely to either hold that level or edge higher if and when it arrives.
  • An i7, with a far larger battery and much higher power, would sit well above the current EV price ceiling and target a small group of ultra‑luxury EV buyers.
  • Local assembly of the i7 in India could help with tax and cost efficiency for right‑hand‑drive markets in the region, but Nepal’s high import duties and excise on big‑battery luxury EVs mean any price relief is likely to be limited.

For now, Nepal remains a watching market. Buyers at the Rs 5,49,96,000–5,95,00,000 level considering a flagship BMW sedan or SUV can expect that the next 7 Series they see officially here will follow this India‑spec design and tech template, but until the distributor speaks, all timing and pricing remain open.

Verdict: for Nepali luxury buyers already shopping around the Rs 5,95,00,000 mark, this India update signals the shape of BMW’s next flagship sedan here, but it is still an expected future option, not a live showroom choice today.
